Bahamas: Changing our (L)Attitudes

Our spot at the marina.

Sylvia and I have been in the Bahamas for 16 days. We are still working our jobs and we have both been pretty busy with them; however, island-time attitudes are a little infectious, and I’m enjoying a slower pace of life. Perhaps it was the grind of getting ourselves and Sans Souci safely to warmer waters that made us feel stressed, but this feels … better.

The beach on the eastern side of the island provides a great spot to swim and it’s only about a 20-minute walk from the marina

Swims a plenty

In the 1960s, there was a golf resort built for the hoity-toity. Guests included Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack. The resort was abandoned, but rumor has it that there are new investors.

The pool was once very nice, it seems.

Manatees and bullsharks are commonly sighted in our marina.

One of the amazing vistas we encountered on a daily walk.

Exploring the island on foot, here is the “cut” (or channel) we came in through when we got here.

We have been buying fresh-caught fish from the fisherman at our marina. This was one of our meals last week — fish tacos!

There were about 8 dinghies on this morning’s expedition to Shark Creek ~3 miles south of our marina.

We drove the dinghy through the narrow creek with overhanging mangroves.

Standing up gave me a better view of the wildlife.

We saw sea turtles and stingrays along the way. This as close as we could get to this huge sea turtle.

The creek opened up into a beautiful, shallow bay where we caught up with our friends and anchored our dinghies.

With us are Cindy and Gary from Emerald Sea and Kim and Ja from Sneaky Egret, both Caliber 40s.

We had about 30 minutes to hang out — and eat a snack — before the tide forced us to return.
